Recommendation list - 2012

My Criteria - before you look at what I recommend, see if my taste matches yours.
  1. Significant amount of magic, or involve wizard politics, hogwarts system and so on. "Regular teen romance? No plz."
  2. Characters have depth.
  3. Plot outside of the romance. Be it mystery, adventure, action, horror.
  4. If ONLY Romance/Drama/Angst - must be very well written. Am picky
  5. People other than Draco and Hermione actually exist. [minus trapped situation]
  6. Minimal cliche. Prefer mindblowingly unexpected plot.
  7. [Optional] - Good Smut.
  8. Author properly aware of muggle and pureblood wizard culture.
  9. Draco likes and RESPECTS Hermione for her regular looks and personality. Not some makeover.
  10. Tropes I hate: Veela Draco, Pureblood/adopted Hermione, Makeover, Reality shows, bimbo Hermione, Unexplained depravity among Slytherins

RECOMMENDATIONS

Hidden Gems - the "not-very-famous-but-deserves-to-be" category
  1. Wash Away and sequel Memory Gospel by Greenway - Draco is a path to self-destruction, and Hermione might be the only one to bring him back to sanity. Very well written. The author is a gifted writer for sure.
  2. Dial G for Granger by gravidy - This is simply hilarious. Kind of crack-fic like but has enough plot to be fun. Hermione is taking over the world hahahaha.
  3. Harry potter and the Fight for Dramione by Ada1405 - Same timeline as Silencio (post HBP), this ones among the best stories set in this timeline i've read so far.
  4. A Little Piece of Sincerity and By the way by provocative envy - Both pure romance, absolutely poetic, masterpiece like thing that I feel too inarticulate to describe. (COMPLETE)
  5. Hunting The Hunters by FutureAggie09 - Hermione is set on arresting the head of a vigilante group, draco. But she has no proof. (Complete)
  6. Best Enemies by camnz - This author has a "start off cliche then blow your mind" sort of style. Vindictive Draco Malfoy, and a strong Hermione.
  7. Mugglewear by WickedDisaster - Starts off cliche, builds up to a touching struggle to save each other.
  8. Unbelievably followed by Bound to you by DanishGirl - Deals with alternate universeS, yes plural. Slytherin Golden trio, with Hermione as the bullying target, very evil Malfoy too. Just mind that the author is not a native speaker, and grammar can be odd sometimes and there are typos.
  9. Surpassing the Lethe by DelicateScholar - Draco is a 26 yo convict no memory past his 16th year. The story follows his slow and interesting rediscovery of his life. ONGOING.

Worth a read - Can't call these gems exactly
  1. To Muddy a Malfoy - by foggybythebay - good tease-smut story. Drags a bit near the end though.
  2. Guardian of the Snake by Earthpaw94 - post-DH but with all the characters even Dumbledore alive. It's a mystery driven story, [currently lost interest].
  3. The Mirror Crack'd From Side to Side by grangerinvestigations - Hermione's alter ego punishes her by sleeping with Malfoy. Epilogue compliant. Warning: the ending is not so happy.
  4. Opaleye: A Dragon's Love by RZZMG - Well executed "draco turned into dragon" trope, except the unsatisfying ending, though the twist is rather surprising.
  5. Blindsided and sequel Illuminated by secretdiary - Straight out fluff, but short, decently written and paced, exactly how it should be.

Top dramione fanfiction [2012 list] - already famous
  1. The Fallout by everythursday - It's the war that Rowling didn't write about. This is how a war would be if HP wasn't written for children. All the blood, gore and vomit, in the midst of the horrors of war, you have romance, and it's sweet and VERY well written.
  2. God of the Lost by gravidy - Best Dramione fanfiction to date, but unfinished. The plot is amazing, its a whole magical adventure rivaling harry potter canon, but scarier! Draco is truly insufferable like he is supposed to be at the end of book UNFINISHED and now hard to find.
  3. Midnight by SpankingHalo - I am hard pressed to decide if this or Gotl should be no. 1. Voldemort reigns. 3 years post-defeat Malfoy finds Hermione hiding in Hogwarts and makes a deal with her to help kill Voldy. Political intrigue, spies, amazingly well developed characters (besides D & H). And this author is a pro. Downside? UNFINISHED
  4. Beggar's Thief by gravidy - Well Written, thrilling, another awesome adventure with older draco and hermione, with scorpius thrown in for good measure. You'll love it! COMPLETE
  5. Finders by everythursday - Hogwarts, magic, horrors, hallucinations. This one is a thriller/ adventure/ action revolving around hogwarts lore, founders etc. You can't guess anything at all in this one. Keep you reading. COMPLETE
  6. When the bell tolls by everythursday- Espionage, and wonderful poignant romance. COMPLETE
  7. Parade of the Sun everythursday - The hunt for immortality, both draco and hermione are after it, but fate throws them in one heck of a stuck in an island adventure. COMPLETE
  8. Bring out your dead by riptey - Haunted malfoy manor. Nuff said. ONGOING
  9. We Learned the Sea by luckei1 - Espionage COMPLETE
  10. The Dragon's Bride - cliche summary, but rather good read, give it a go. One of the fluff stories I actually enjoyed. COMPLETE
  11. The fool, the emperor and the hangman by ianthe_waiting - The least likely character in hp just went psycho. This one's a mystery, action adventure, where dramione pair is off to hunt him down!
  12. Complexities of Carnal Knowledge by akashathekitty - Sex goddess hermione, a rare piece of fanfiction. Rather fun to read so far. ONGOING
  13. Silencio - Good Smut, Poignant, will break your heart, no it's not a tragedy. COMPLETE (sequel on the way)
  14. Linked and The Bracelet Both have similar fluffy themes, but worth a read nonetheless. Nice light read, though the bracelet is rather long. COMPLETE
  15. prey by Elysium - the best thing about this, is that both Draco and Hermione don't have sudden changes of character. And there is as much repulsion as there is attraction, its their unique character development that made it worth reading this entirely romance driven story. COMPLETE (Sequel pending)
  16. Claiming Hermione by ilke - Just awesome smut. ONGOING
  17. His Beautiful, Haunting Eyes Sequel - 99.5% Evil Draco. He's dark, powerful and a little crazy.

One shot RECOMMENDATIONS
  1. Twelfth Uses of Dragon's Blood by Wonderland Toy
  2. Only the Cold - blue movies
  3. Seeing the Light - by Akashathekitty

Unsorted Recs - Too good to assign a rank, or I'm just undecided as to which list they belong to.
  1. Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality by Less Wrong - funny, intelligent, satirical, and absolutely hilarious piece of fanfiction. WARNING: not a romance, not dramione, in fact it might not have a pairing at all. But it's the kind of fanfiction on which other people write fanfiction, it's that good. Beware though, the author very much aims to brainwash you with his ideals. Other than that this story is "fall out of the chair in laughter" kind of story. [most read harry potter fanfiction to date]
  2. Virgin Conundrum by Akashathekitty - Funny, fluffy, enjoyable. COMPLETE
  3. Aurelian - I haven't finished this one, but it's got a good story so far. COMPLETE
  4. Cake and other Curses by AkashatheKitty - Funny Draco. COMPLETE
  5. The Politician's Wife: A very chatty Draco. He rambles on in a very funny way. Well paced story, you'll have a hard time stopping once you start. COMPLETE
  6. Lion of December by gravidy - Hermione's perspective of draco paints a very interesting picture of him. COMPLETE
  7. A Series of Unfortunate Events by Geeky-DMHG-Fan
  8. A Bottle of Luck by twin-v - Too light hearted for my taste, but worth a read.
